Using a permanent filter in conjunction with a paper filter may result in the clogging and backing up of water and/or coffee in the filter basket.
NOTE: The clean cycle takes approximately 60 minutes.
To clean and descale your Ninja Coffee brewer:
1 Select the Full Carafe size and set the empty carafe beneath the brew basket.
2 Use a descaling solution specifically formulated for coffeemaker cleaning and follow the directions on the package. Fill the water reservoir up to, but not exceeding, the Max Fill line (43 oz.).
Fill the water reservoir to the Travel Mug line (16 oz.) with white vinegar, then fill the rest of the reservoir with water up to, but not exceeding, the Max Fill line (43 oz.). IMPORTANT: Use only white vinegar.
3 Once the water reservoir is filled with your cleaning solution and water mixture, press the CLEAN button.
NOTE: To cancel the clean cycle, press the Power button or CLEAN button once. The unit will beep, and stop brewing through the cleaning mixture. Discard any remaining cleaning mixture in the reservoir and the carafe, and thoroughly clean each. Refill the reservoir with fresh water up to, but not exceeding, the Max Fill line, and set the empty carafe beneath the brew basket. Run a Full Carafe, Classic Brew with water only to remove any cleaning solution that could affect the flavor of your coffee.
IMPORTANT: If you cancel the clean cycle, your machine will not be properly descaled, and the CLEAN indicator light will remain on.
4 The clock will display and countdown the remaining clean cycle time, as this takes approximately 60 minutes to complete. Your Ninja Coffee brewer will deliver a small amount of cleaning solution to distribute it through the system. It will then pause for a half an hour, deliver additional cleaning solution, and pause for another half hour. The extended pauses allow for maximum cleaning and descaling.
CAUTION: DO NOT remove the carafe at any time throughout the clean cycle.
5 Upon completion, the brewer will beep, and the CLEAN light will turn off.
6 Empty and thoroughly clean the carafe and water reservoir with warm, soapy water to remove any cleaning solution that could affect the flavor of your coffee.
7 Fill the reservoir with fresh water up to, but not exceeding, the Max Fill line (43 oz.) and set the empty carafe beneath the brew basket.
8 Flush the system by running a Full Carafe, Classic Brew cycle with water only. After the cycle is complete, discard the water and thoroughly clean the carafe to remove any cleaning solution that could affect the flavor of your coffee.
NOTE: If the CLEAN light illuminates again, then calcium scale buildup is still present. Repeat the steps above and the CLEAN light will automatically shut off when your brewer is clean.
Please call Customer Care at 1-877-646-5288 to purchase descaling solution or if the brewer needs any servicing.
With your brewer plugged in and powered on, fill your reservoir with water up to, but not exceeding, the Max Fill line. Place the carafe under the brew basket, choose the Full Carafe setting, then press the Classic Brew button. When the cycle is complete, discard the water in the carafe and repeat. After you have completed two cycles, you are ready to use your Ninja Coffee Brewer.
Before cleaning, close the Drip Stop. After each brew is complete and the coffee grounds have cooled, discard the paper filter. If using the permanent filter, carefully remove and wash. Remove brew basket from the brewer, rinse, and wash with soap and warm water. Wash the carafe and brew-through lid with soap and warm water. Use a bottle brush or cloth to wash the inside of the carafe. DO NOT use a wire brush. Wipe machine down with a cloth and soap and warm water. Let the warming plate cool before cleaning with a wet cloth and soap and water. DO NOT immerse the base in water.
NOTE: The brew-through lid, glass carafe, permanent filter, and water reservoir are top-rack dishwasher safe.
DO NOT clean carafe with abrasive cleansers, steel wool pads, or other abrasive material.
If you are experiencing inconsistent brew volume, we recommend you run a clean cycle. Please refer to the How to clean & descale your Ninja Coffee Brewer FAQ.
Clock & Delay Brew
The Delay Brew button will illuminate and the clock will begin to flash "12:00" or the last Delay Brew time that was set. While the clock is flashing, press the H (Hour) or M (Minute) buttons to set the time you would like the Delay Brew to begin. The AM or PM indicator will illuminate on the left side of the display as you are setting the desired time.
Once the desired time has been set, select the size of the vessel that you would like to brew. Select the Brew Type that you desire from the four flashing buttons. The selected brew type will be illuminated.
Once the time, brew size, and brew type have been set, allow the Delay Brew button to stop flashing, or press the Delay Brew button to activate. When the Delay Brew is activated, the Delay Brew button will illuminate and an audible signal will play to verify the Delay Brew is set. Place the appropriate sized vessel under the brew basket.
IMPORTANT : The unit must remain on in order for the Delay Brew function to work. Do not power off after setting Delay Brew. Also, make sure the Drip Stop is in the open position.
If you would like the Warming Plate to say on longer, you can program it to stay on up to 4 hours. Turn the Multi-Serve dial to Half Carafe or Full Carafe. Press and hold the Stay Warm button until the clock begins to flash the current time the warming plate will stay on for. Quickly press the hour or minute (H or M) to increase the time up to 4 hours. The time will lock in after 5 seconds or you can press the Stay Warm button.
NOTE: The HOT SURFACE light will illuminate when the warming plate is hot. Do not touch the surface when thi s lightis illuminate.
We strongly recommend ice cubes when making iced coffee. Shaved and crushed ice have different packing characteristics. Because of this, you should NOT use shaved or crushed ice as the vessel used may overflow once coffee is brewed over the ice.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT use hot water in the water reservoir. We recommend cool, fresh, filtered water.
For additional volume troubleshooting, see flow chart.
CAUTION: NEVER open the brew basket while the Ninja Coffee Brewer is brewing. Scalding may occur if the brew basket is removed during brewing cycles.
If you want to adjust your time to stay warm, simply press and hold down the Stay Warm button for 3 seconds and the clock will begin to flash. Use the Hour Button to toggle between 1 and 4 hours, and the Minute button to toggle in between 15 minute intervals. Once you have selected the desired Stay Warm time, please press the Stay Warm button again to activate.
How It Works:
Temperature: Water is heated to the ideal temperature for coffee.
Pre-Infusion: Grounds are evenly saturated then given time to 'bloom'
Saturation: Grounds are saturated again for an even and consistent extraction
The HOT SURFACE light is a safety feature that will illuminate when the warming plate is hot. If you leave your brewing vessel on the Intelligent Warming Plate for an extended period, the HOT SURFACE indicator may illuminate, even if the Stay Warm function has not been initaited. The HOT SURFACE light will remain on until the warming plate has reached a safe temperature. DO NOT touch the surface when this light is illuminated.
The brew basket is NOT dishwasher safe.
Imperial (inches): 11.65 (depth) x 10.51 (width) x 14.84 (height); OR
Metric (centimeters): 29.6 (depth) x 26.7 (width) x 37.7 (height)
The warming plate will automatically turn off after 2 hours, however you can enable the Stay Warm functionality for up to four hours, or as little as 15 mins. If you want to adjust your time to stay warm, simply press and hold down the Stay Warm button for 3 seconds and the clock begins to flash. Use the Hour Button to toggle between 1 and 4 hours, and the Minute button to toggle in between 15 minute intervals. Once you have selected the desired Stay Warm time, please press the Stay Warm button again to activate.

If you did select a Half or Full Carafe on either Classic or Rich brew, ensure that you filled the reservoir up to, but not exceeding, the Max Fill line. If not enough water was in the reservoir, the brew will not be completed. This may result in the warming plate not turning on.
If the brew cycle is taking longer than normal, run a Clean Cycle with the descaling solution.
If the above does not help, follow the "low volume" steps in the Coffee Volume Troubleshooting flow chart.
Make sure the Drip Stop is open, as the machine will beep 5 times and the brew cycle will not start if the Drip Stop is in the closed position. If the Drip Stop LED is illuminated, and the Drip Stop is in the open position, it means the brew basket was inserted incorrectly. Reinsert the brew basket by aligning it with the rails, then slide it into the brewer until it clicks in place.
If your Ninja Coffee Bar® beeps 5 times, this could indicate that there is not enough water in the reservoir. Please refill the water reservoir, and reselect your brew size and type to restart the brew cycle.
If the above actions have not corrected the beeping, it may be time to run the Clean cycle. Please refer to the Care & Maintenance section.
NOTE: The brew will begin, stop, and be quiet for a short period of time before it begins again. This pre-infusion process is used to evenly saturate your coffee grounds.
The bottom opening of the brew basket may be clogged. This can happen with finely ground coffee, or if too many coffee grounds were put into the basket. Remove the basket carefully, discard the coffee grounds, and rinse the entire brew basket (and permanent filter, if applicable) with water to remove any grounds remaining inside. Do NOT touch the basket until it has completely cooled, as the water will be very HOT. Clogging of the brew basket can also occur when using the permanent filter in conjunction with a paper filter. When using a paper filter, do not use the permanent filter.
The Ninja Coffee Bar® is equipped with Auto-iQ® technology that includes a pre-infusion feature. This means there will be a short delay after you start your brew cycle where water is saturating with your coffee grounds in the brew basket to enhance the flavor of the coffee.
If problem persists, please wash out your brew basket and run a Clean cycle.
Clogging of the brew basket can also occur when using the permanent filter in conjunction with a paper filter. When using a paper filter, do not use the permanent filter.
- Cup - 9. 5 oz.
- Travel - 14 oz.
If your cup overflowed, please be sure that the cup can hold over 12 oz. of liquid, and your travel mug can hold over 16 oz.
NOTE: On Rich Brew and Over Ice Brew there will be less volume dispensed.
If your Ninja® Coffee Brewer has gradually increased the volume dispensed, we recommend running the clean cycle with a descaling solution specifically formulated for coffeemaker cleaning.
To temporarily stop the flow of coffee, move the drip stop tab on the brew basket to the closed position denoted by a water droplet icon with a slash through it to stop the brew cycle. Power off the unit to cancel the Delay Brew.
NOTE: Allow the brew basket (and warming plate for certain models) to cool before cleaning.
NOTE: When using a paper filter, do not use the permanent filter.
- Ensure the display is illimunated. If there are no lights illuminated, it means the machine is not getting power. Try a different outlet.
- Check the Drip Stop, and make sure it is set to the open position (denoted by the image of a water droplet).
- Ensure the brew basket is properly inserted and aligned.
- Ensure there is water in the reservoir. If there is no water, and the boiler is too hot, the unit will beep and not start the brew in order to protect the boiler from overheating.
- If the boiler has become scaled from excessive hard water usage without cleaning and got too hot, the unit will beep and not start the brew in order to protect the boiler from overheating. Please run a Clean cycle, following the instructions in the Owner's Guide or under the FAQ titled "How to clean and descale your Ninja® Coffee Brewer."
- When using a ceramic cup, we recommend preheating the cup by running it under hot water from the sink. When using a travel mug, put the top on as soon as the brew cycle is completed.
- When using the glass carafe, ensure the brew-through lid is on correctly and securely fastened. This helps maintain the carafe's temperature. Not using the brew-through lid, or not having the lid on properly, could allow heat to escape from the carafe, causing the coffee to cool rapidly.
