Warming Plate

How long does the Precise Temp Warming Plate keep coffee hot? (CF080 Series)
The Precise Temp Warming Plate is designed to keep your coffee hot for two hours. After that, the warming plate will turn off automatically. But if you want to turn it off sooner, you can—just press the Stay Warm button. For a quick demo, watch this video.

Why don’t I need a warming plate with the thermal carafe? (CF085 Series)
Seven words: Stainless Steel Double-Walled Vacuum-Sealed body. That just means the heat won’t transfer from the inner carafe wall to the outer wall.

My warming plate stays on for less than 2 hours. (CF080 Series)
First, double-check what brew style and size you’ve selected. Remember, the warming plate will activate only for a half or full carafe set to Classic or Rich brew.

Next, make sure there’s enough water in the reservoir. Too little water may cancel the brew, causing the warming plate to turn off. You can also try filling the water reservoir slightly past the MAX FILL line.

Power

Where is the on/off button?
Trick question—there isn’t one. After your brew is complete and the warming plate turns off, the Ninja Coffee Bar® brewer goes into standby. So it is ready to brew at any time.

How do I remove and insert the brew basket?
The brew basket can be removed from the brewer by lifting the brew basket at a slight upward angle (similar to a cabinet drawer). To reinsert, align the brew basket with the tracks on the brewer and push in at a downward angle.

For more information, watch this video.

Setting up for single cup, travel, half carafe, full carafe, and Drip Stop
To brew a half carafe or full carafe, place your carafe below the brew basket and fill the water reservoir with water. Then insert a #4 paper filter or the permanent filter in the brew basket, and add your favorite coffee using the Ninja Coffee Scoop. After adding the water and coffee, choose a size and brew type.

If you want to pour a cup of coffee before the brew is complete you can close the Drip Stop and remove your carafe to pour a cup. Remember to replace the carafe and open the Drip Stop when you’re done. You can also use the Drip Stop to stop the brew basket from dripping coffee at the end of the brew.

If you want to brew a travel mug, you can place larger cups and travel mugs directly on the base of the unit. Don’t worry—the warming plate won’t turn on when brewing on the travel mug or cup setting.

If you want to brew a cup, lower the cup platform below the brew basket and place your cup on the platform, following the same instructions above.

How do I fill my water reservoir?
  1. Twist the Water Reservoir counter-clockwise and remove for easy filling.
  2. Fill with fresh, filtered water up to the carafe line, marked on the outside of the Water Reservoir. Auto-iQ® knows just the right amount of water to draw from it for the size and brew you select. Before you brew, always be sure the Water Reservoir is filled above the minimum fill line for your desired size.
  3. Twist the Water Reservoir clockwise to lock into place.

Note: There may be water left in the reservoir after a brew. This is normal since the water is automatically metered based on your brew selection.

To clean and descale your Ninja Coffee Bar:

  1. Select the Full Carafe size and set the empty carafe beneath the brew basket.
  2. (Recommended) Use a descaling solution specifically formulated for coffeemaker cleaning and follow the directions on the package. Fill the water reservoir up to, but not exceeding, the Max Fill line (43 oz.). OR Fill the water reservoir to the Travel Mug line (16 oz.) with white vinegar, then fill the rest of the reservoir with water up to, but not exceeding, the Max Fill line (43 oz.). IMPORTANT: Use only white vinegar.
  3. Once the water reservoir is filled with your cleaning solution and water mixture, press the CLEAN button.

NOTE: The clean cycle takes approximately 60 minutes.
  4. Your Ninja Coffee Bar will deliver a small amount of cleaning solution to distribute it through the system. It will then pause for a half an hour as a 30-minute timer on the clock display counts down. The Ninja Coffee Bar will then deliver additional cleaning solution, and pause while another 30-minute timer counts down.

CAUTION: DO NOT remove carafe at any time throughout the clean cycle. DO NOT press any buttons during this 1-hour period, as this will cancel all progress of the cleaning.
  5. After one hour, your Ninja Coffee Bar will discharge the remainder of the cleaning mixture into the carafe. Upon completion, the Ninja Coffee Bar will beep, and a flush message (“FLUS”/“LUSH”) will appear on the clock screen for a 15 minute timeframe.

NOTE: You must initiate the Flush stage (see steps 6-8) within the 15 minute timeframe or else the clean light will immediately come back on.
  6. Empty and thoroughly clean the carafe and water reservoir by following the cleaning instructions in the Care & Maintenance section of this Owner’s Guide. This removes any cleaning solution that could affect the flavor of your coffee.
  7. Fill the reservoir with fresh water up to, but not exceeding, the Max Fill line (43 oz.) and set the empty carafe beneath the brew basket.
  8. Within the 15 minute timeframe, and while the clock display reads “FLUS”/“LUSH”, press the CLEAN button once to begin the Flush stage. The Flush stage takes approximately 8 minutes.

NOTE: If the clock screen does not display “FLUS”/“LUSH”, or the CLEAN button was pressed twice during this timeframe canceling the Flush stage, you will need to repeat the clean cycle (steps 1-5).
  9. Upon completion of the Flush stage, the CLEAN light will turn off. Discard the water in the carafe, and thoroughly clean it to remove any cleaning solution that could affect the flavor of your coffee.

NOTE: If taste remains affected by cleaning solution, please run a Full Carafe, Classic Brew with water only (no coffee grounds).

NOTE: If the CLEAN light illuminates again, then calcium scale buildup is still present. Repeat the steps above and the CLEAN light will automatically shut off when your brewer is clean. If the problem persists, consider using the Enhanced Clean Cycle.

Brewing Coffee

My coffee isn't hot enough.
The Ninja Coffee Bar® is designed to brew your coffee at a specific temperature that’s optimal for flavor and ideal for drinking. That said, what’s ideal for some may not be for others. If you prefer your coffee hotter, here are a few things to try:
  • If you use milk or cream, pour it into a microwave-safe mug and preheat for 30 seconds.
  • If you drink your coffee black, rinse your mug or carafe with hot tap water before brewing.
  • If you preset your machine to brew in advance, don’t let the coffee sit too long before consuming.

NOTE: Never place your carafe in the microwave.

Why is the second cup that I brewed hotter than the first brew?
Once the Ninja Coffee Bar® has brewed the first cup, the brewing system is prewarmed. This enables any following brews to be slightly hotter. For a hotter first cup, try prewarming your mug.

Frother

How to use the Ninja Easy Frother
  1. Start by filling the glass jar with cold milk (no more than 6 ounces). For Cold Froth Specialty Beverages, skip to Step 2. For Hot Froth Specialty Beverages, see instructions below.
    • Microwave milk warming times:
    • 700-900 watts: 60-75 seconds
    • 1000-1200 watts: 45-60 seconds
    • IMPORTANT: Remove the plastic base and frothing mechanism prior to placing the glass jar in the microwave.
    • CAUTION: Glass surface may be hot to touch after heating the liquid in the microwave. Use care in handling the jar.
  2. Place the frother press into the glass jar and secure the lid. Note: Ensure the pouring holes are turned away from spout lid when frothing to prevent milk splashing out.
  3. Pump the frother press 10 to 20 times in quick, quarter-second lengths to create thick and luxurious foam for your specialty drink. 10-15 pumps will result in a looser foam with microfoam: this is great for lattes and flat whites. 15-20 pumps will result in a thicker, more sturdy foam: this is great for cappuccino-style drinks.
  4. When pouring the milk/foam, use a soon to get all the foam from the bottom of the glass jar. Enjoy your frothed milk or cream in your favorite Ninja Coffee Bar® beverages.

The Clean button should illuminate when your Ninja Coffee Bar® senses there is a calcium buildup in your machine. Follow procedures for Clean and Descale.

Be sure to allow the brewer to cool before cleaning. Do NOT immerse the coffeemaker into water or any other liquid. To keep your brewer brewing hot rich and smooth coffee, cleaning is recommended before or as soon as the Clean button is lit.

How do I clean my glass carafe?
Your glass carafe is nothing a little soap and warm water can’t handle. To clean the inside of the carafe, use a soft bottle brush. DO NOT use a wire brush.

You can also try this:
  1. Rinse your carafe with cold water.
  2. Add 8 ice cubes and 2 teaspoons of iodized salt.
  3. Pour 1 cup of white vinegar.
  4. Fill the remainder of your carafe with cold water and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  5. Pour out half of the liquid, then use a bottle brush to clean.
  6. Rinse again with cold water.

Brewing Coffee

Is it okay to brew iced coffee in the glass and thermal carafes?
Sure is. As a matter of fact, the glass and thermal carafes were specially designed for both hot and iced coffee. When making iced coffee in the carafe, fill it to the top with ice cubes and let your Ninja Coffee Bar® do the rest.

Troubleshooting

This FAQ page is a great place to find info, tips and help. Just make sure you’ve read your Owner’s Guide before using your unit.

Warming Plate

I turned the warming plate off by pressing the Stay Warm button, but the Hot Surface light is still on. (CF080 Series)
Just looking out for you (and your fingers). The Hot Surface indicator is a safety feature to warn you the surface is currently hot. This may stay on for a few minutes after turning the Precise Temp Warming Plate off because the surface is still hot. The light will turn off when the warming plate cools off.

Power

Is it normal for the lights to stay on for brew selection and vessel size?
Sure is. In fact, the Ninja Coffee Bar® doesn’t have an off button. So after the brew is complete and the warming plate turns off, the brewer goes into standby. The clock and brew size selection remain illuminated.

Why won't my brew start?
If you’re having trouble getting your brew to start, first make sure the Ninja Coffee Bar® is plugged in—you never know. Next, check that there’s enough water in the reservoir and that the brew basket is pushed all the way into the brewer with the drip stop in its open position.

Running another appliance from the same outlet may also cause your brewer to shut down. Try unplugging the unit for 15 minutes to see if it resets. If the problem persists, please call customer service at 1-866-826-6941.

Set Up

There is water left in the reservoir.
There may be water left in the reservoir after a brew. This is normal since the water is automatically metered based on your brew selection. To learn more, watch this video.

Brewing Coffee

Why is my Ninja Coffee Bar® beeping?
There are multiple reasons why your Ninja Coffee Bar® brewer may be beeping. Fortunately, we have multiple solutions. See below.

When starting a brew:
  • If the Drip Stop is closed OR the brew basket is not inserted all the way into the brewer and you press a brew button the Ninja Coffee Bar® will begin beeping. Check if the brew basket is inserted all the way and make sure the Drip Stop is open.

When using Delay Brew:
  • If the Drip Stop is closed OR the brew basket is not inserted all the way into the brewer and you press Delay Brew the Ninja Coffee Bar® will beep for a few seconds. Check if the brew basket is inserted all the way and make sure the Drip Stop is open.
  • If a Delay Brew has been set and you engage the Drip Stop or the brew basket is not inserted all the way the Ninja Coffee Bar® will begin and continue beeping until closed. After 20 seconds the Delay Brew will be automatically canceled. Reopen the Drip Stop or reinsert the brew basket into the Ninja Coffee Bar®.

After or during a brew:
  • If the Ninja Coffee Bar® beeps after a brew, it is signaling the brew is complete.
  • If you close the Drip Stop to stop the flow of coffee, to pour an early cup, or for any other reason before the brew is complete, the Ninja Coffee Bar® will begin to beep after about 20 seconds. This is to let you know it's time to replace the carafe or vessel in order to complete the brew.
  • If the Ninja Coffee Bar® beeps during a brew or too early: There may not be enough water in the water reservoir to complete the brew.
  • Make sure the water reservoir is locked in place and check the Clean indicator light — if it's illuminated, run a clean cycle with the appropriate descaling solution or a white vinegar mixture. (See Care & Maintenance section.) If the problem persists, call customer service at 1-866-826-6941.

There is sediment in my coffee.
Hmm, this could be due to finely ground coffee in the permanent filter. To reduce the amount of sediment in your coffee, try using a slightly coarser grind or a paper filter.

If you’re still finding sediment in your coffee, make sure the brew basket did not overflow. If there are too many grounds in the brew basket, the grounds will flow into an overflow channel designed to make sure overflow is captured in the brew vessel.

For information, watch this video: What filter should I use: Taste vs. Sediment

The brew basket is dripping after brew.
Is the Drip Stop toggle set to the closed/no drip position? If it is and the brewer continues to drip, run a clean cycle or wash the brew basket thoroughly with warm, soapy water.

My reservoir is leaking.
Water may drip from the reservoir when it is removed. Not to worry—this is a normal occurrence. Simply use a dry cloth to wipe away the water droplets from the machine after it’s cooled.

Frother

My Ninja Easy Frother came apart. How do I put it back together?
Reassembling the Ninja Easy Frother is simple. First, turn the pump/handle assembly upside down and hold it by the metal rod. Next, insert the spring, then the mesh with the curved edge facing down (so it looks like an umbrella). Finally, insert the plastic foot with the ribs facing up and turn clockwise to tighten. (If your frother has a separate nut, install that last. Make sure the nut is tight, or it could loosen and come off during the frothing operation.)

My frother isn't frothing.
That’s infrothable! But seriously, it could just be the type of milk you’re using. Almond, soy, and other non-dairy milk types will not render the best results, as they lack the essential fats that dairy milk has to produce froth.

If you recently disassembled your Ninja Easy Frother for cleaning, then reassembled it incorrectly, that will also affect the frother’s performance. For simple assembly instructions, see the FAQ answer above for "My Ninja Easy Frother came apart. How do I put it back together?".

Great! We threw our K-cup machine away. Not only does this brew coffee much more economically, but it’s also a much better brew. We use the Melita (4) brand filters and the coffee brand we love, and that’s not G.M. by K. We’re very particular about our coffee, and this is the way to satisfy. And, this machine does so much more than brew coffee. It allows you to customize brew characteristics such as strength; plus, it brews a large variety of specialty coffee drinks. I LOVE your products along with the customer service they are both beyond amazing. I recently purchased the Ninja Coffee Bar which came with the free Nutri Ninja Blender. I am in LOVE with them both. A while ago I purchased the Nutri Ninja Blender System with Auto-IQ and have been very pleased and love this blender using it all the time. You also handle the Shark products which is another product we are very pleased with. I am so amazed on how well the vacuum works, totally in love with the vacuum (yes I know sounds strange but you have to purchase one to understand, haha). I am a coffee snob, therefore I was not sure about the Coffee Bar which caused me not to purchase one as I love my coffee very strong. When I called customer service for an issue we had on the Shark vacuum after the phone rep resolved our issue I asked him if he could answer several questions regarding the Ninja Coffee Bar. He was extremely knowledgeable and answered all my questions and then some and within 30 minutes I ordered the Coffee Bar. As mentioned I have the blender and 2 shark vacuums. I have told several people (friends and people I see shopping) about both products and some of them too have purchased these products. Our friends who have are very pleased with their purchase(s). Now I have the Coffee Bar added to my collection I’ll have to pass on my findings with the Coffee Bar. Seriously we LOVE the Ninja/Shark products and more important they stand behind their products and the customer care is beyond words on helping with any issue, they are amazing. You don’t find a lot of companies like this anymore and they go way above and beyond customer service. THANK YOU Ninja/Shark. After ordering the Coffee Bar I had seen an add with 15% off, I contacted Ninja by message and they looked into it getting back with me that at the date of purchase there was a 25% off and that is what they were going to honor…. WOW really I was very impressed and amaze with their service and honesty. Again THANK YOU Ninja you all are AWESOME!!!

Love my coffee bar!

I was looking for a coffee maker that made single cups of coffee and I came across the Ninja. I am in love! It makes all the specialty drinks I usually buy at Starbucks without the line and a lot less money. The quality of the drinks and the convenience are superb. Hands down, the best coffee maker ever!

Since purchasing it in December 2015, it has made great coffee consistently day after day and I have also stopped my daily routine of going to my local café because there isn’t any need to but every once in a while I do stop. The coffee maker is solid and robust and with much better materials and workmanship than my old Keurig, which seemed cheap and flimsy using cheap plastic (i.e. Lexan). On the first day of owning my Keurig, because I opened up the lid before the hot water sequence ended, it caused an issue within the motor to make strange noises at every cycle when I made coffee. In other words, any steps taken outside a procedure could cause issues, but there is no procedure given either and it shouldn’t be difficult to work a coffee maker without breaking it. That is no way to sell a consumer product such as a coffee maker. The Ninja is much more robust, solid, and made with better materials such as ABS plastic and it is soft, firm, and easily cleaned and just looks like higher quality and the workmanship is much better also. There are two unique design functions on this coffee maker which are innovative for this machine. When the coffee is finished brewing, there are a sequence of four beeps that indicates that your coffee is ready. Also, for the brew basket, it has a off/on slider that allows you to stop the excess coffee from dripping onto the hot pad. That was a great idea in my opinion. For making coffee, I use the Ninja coffee measuring tool that came with the bundled package. It has a small and large sized measuring end. I tested the amount of coffee in a K-cup and I noticed that there are 3 small measures using the Ninja tool that equals one K-cup. That gives me a benchmark to determine how I make my coffee. I used filtered water only using my PUR water filter attachment on my kitchen sink. For cold coffee, I am very surprised at the quality of the taste, consistency, and smoothness. I have not made any specialty coffee yet. I bought the bundled packaged through Ninja and it was delivered quickly, packaged very well, and everything came in separate boxes but in one package. I think the pricing for everything was reasonable and overall, I am very pleased with this coffee maker.

I am stoked!

I bought a Ninja Coffee Bar at Christmas after a lot of research. Owned a blender already so I was familiar with the brand. This is the best investment in my kitchen since the blender. I am excited about drinking coffee again! Smooth and delightful, I have to finish every cup. I have never enjoyed coffee the way I do with this product! You will not be disappointed!
